AIT - Assessor Course 2 - Assessment Tools

The challenge with being an assessor is to be as objective as possible rather than subjective. It’s easy to recognise that a technique is good or bad but it’s more difficult to say what is right or wrong with the technique.

To be less subjective and more objective we must have a standard and a measure for that standard.

The standard is the minimum acceptable level of performance of a technique or movement at a given level of skill/experience. what should be happening compared to what is happening. To answer this, we must breakdown the technique into its key parts and set a measurable way to test/measure its performance. For instance, what are the key parts of roundhouse kick? To answer this, we must ask ourselves: what happens when someone throws a roundhouse kick? Basically, they lift their leg, turn their body and strike a target with their foot. If they can do this without being stopped during the movement and without leaving themselves vulnerable afterwards we can say that they have achieved their aim.
