AIT - Range of Motion Assessment

Many martial artists are limited in their skill by their range and quality of motion. Most can hide some of these limitations through being able to apply techniques at high speed or using only those techniques that require the range of motion they can achieve. Some acknowledge their limited range of motion by saying ‘I can’t do that’ as if their lack of flexibility is a genetic inheritance or has been caused by some injury in the past that has reduced it.

But the fact is that our range of motion is important, not only because it improves the quality of one’s technique but also, because it reduces the chances of injury which might occur because of imbalance or dysfunction in movement.

The good news is that by having a standard and system of measuring the quality of our movement and motion we can remove deficiencies and dysfunction quite simply by attending to the areas that are causing problems.

This course is focused on how to develop a full range of motion in both ourselves and our students. Our flexibility is not fixed and any imbalance can be rectified and improved upon.
