Shear Haven Domestic Violence Training

Shear Haven is an initiative of the YWCA Nashville & Middle TN, co-founded by Nashville-based salon owner and stylist Susanne Post. As a survivor of domestic violence, Susanne is committed to educating the beauty industry on the signs of abuse as stylists are in a unique position to recognize the signs and potentially help a client get to safety.

This domestic violence awareness training is hosted on BARBICIDE®'s website, the leader in salon safety and proud supporter of the initiative.

The training equips stylists with:

  • Knowledge and tools to recognize the signs of domestic violence
  • Tips on successfully navigating conversations with clients who may be in danger
  • Resources that can help clients get to safety

Thanks to Susanne Post's advocacy work with her local YWCA, Tennessee legislators passed a law that took effect on January 1st, 2022. The new law requires all licensed beauty professionals and students to receive training that helps them identify the signs of domestic violence and how to respond.
