  • The health burden of COPD
  • Screening and assessment of COPD
  • Updated Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines for pharmacological management
  • NZ COPD 2021 guidelines for pharmacological management
  • Currently funded maintenance therapies for COPD, including long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs), long-acting beta2 agonists (LABAs), inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), and fixed LAMA/LABA and ICS/LABA combinations
  • Evidence for the use of dual and triple therapy in COPD

Learning outcomes

After completing this module, you should have an improved understanding of how to:

  • Use the modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) Dyspnoea Scale and the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) to screen for breathlessness and symptomatic impact
  • Determine which patients with COPD should be receiving regular maintenance therapy
  • Step up treatment for patients with persistent breathlessness and/or exacerbations
  • Describe the evidence for use of dual and triple therapy in patients with COPD
