How much CO2 do we emit?
As an eco-conscious company, we track our CO₂ footprint annually using SmartTrackers, with expert guidance. Here are our results so far:
2020: 8.03t CO₂
2021: 8.33t CO₂
2022: 10.06t CO₂
2023: 19.29t CO₂
Why the increase? As a SaaS company, we have no direct emissions (scope 1) but focus on indirect emissions — electricity, heating, commuting, business travel, water, paper, and equipment. In 2023, we expanded our reporting scope to include all data center emissions, significantly raising our total. Ideally, every supplier would aim for net-zero, eliminating the need for us to compensate.
While our total CO₂ emissions have increased, this aligns with our growth as a company. When we consider emissions per full-time employee, the development of our emissions is different:
2020: 1.0t CO₂ per FTE
2021: 0.9t CO₂ per FTE
2022: 0.8t CO₂ per FTE
2023: 1.5t CO₂ per FTE
Aside from 2023 (due to added data center emissions), emissions per employee have steadily decreased — proof that we’re growing responsibly while reducing our footprint. Let’s keep pushing forward!
How do we reduce our footprint?
While we can’t directly influence the emissions of our suppliers, we work on the emissions that stem from our own consumption in our office as much as we can.
Office improvements
💚 Upgraded to an energy-efficient fridge, eight times better than the old one.
💚 Switched to LED TL lights above our fridges.
💚 Improved insulation with thermal curtains and well-sealed windows and doors.
💚 Installed a door closer to the front door to reduce energy loss.
💚 Introduced a new waste separation policy.
We also optimize heating:
💚 Forest-compensated gas.
💚 Capped room temperatures at 19°C and only heat occupied spaces.
💚 Added radiator foil and fans for better warmth circulation, reducing gas usage.
💚 Installed a smart energy display to detect and turn off unused devices, like air conditioning left on after hours.
While we’ve optimized these aspects, we face limitations. Our office is in a historic rented building in Delft, so upgrading to a heat pump or installing solar panels isn’t easy. Moving to a modern building would resolve these issues, but that presents its own set of challenges.
How do we offset our emissions?
We offset our emissions annually by supporting Gold Standard renewable energy projects via Climate Neutral Group. These initiatives cut emissions and advance global sustainability goals. We’re proud to be certified for fully offsetting our emissions since 2020:
What else are we doing?
Planting trees
On top of offsetting the emissions that we cannot avoid, we’re tackling the climate crisis through reforestation and afforestation. For every subscription sold, we plant trees on farms across Europe, Guatemala, and Paraguay. Colleagues who excel in their roles are also rewarded with their own tree.
🌳 Tree count: As of January 2025, we’ve planted 802 trees — and we’re just getting started!
