Content Management System vs Learning Management System

Content management system (CMS) and learning management system (LMS) are two different systems with different options. E-learning is something we see more and more. What kind of system is better to use? CMS or LMS? You can use a more passive system or a system where learners are actively involved. This article describes the differences between CMS and LMS.

CMS

CMS stands for: Content Management System

If you want to create your own blog or website, you can start from scratch. Using Java, HTML or CSS make it possible to start from script. If you’re building a website and you’re not familiar with technology, you’d better use a proven CMS. CMS does not require as much technical knowledge as building it from scratch :) On the other hand building from scratch gives you the chance to make it more personalized. The options are endless. By using CMS users with appropriate permissions can edit, add and view content. Users with a lower level of access can only view content.

Examples of content management systems

WordPress

This may be the best known CMS. There are plenty of plug-ins you can use. You can add social features to your blog or website, create membership areas and a whole lot more.  Another plus point is the ability to choose from many different themes for your website or blog.

Tumblr
