“What made Easy LMS stand out for me was its simplicity.”

Rolf Döbeli

Branch Manager

The challenge: verifying occupational safety knowledge across thousands of member companies

Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital is the industry solution for occupational safety and health protection in the Swiss timber construction sector. The organization serves roughly 14,000 member companies, ranging from small carpentry businesses to larger construction firms. They provide employees with occupational safety courses and are responsible for ensuring that safety training reaches workers across both the German and Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland. Therefore, every exam must exist in two languages. This doubles the content management workload and requires a tool that makes updates easy.

The challenge Rolf’s department faces is a practical one: training often takes place in person or via a presentation at the company, delivered by one of hundreds of different instructors across the country. Once training is complete, participants need to be tested to confirm they understood the material. Those participants are typically on a building site or at their workplace, not sitting at a desk.

Getting a knowledge check into the hands of workers in that environment, quickly and reliably, without requiring login credentials, accounts, or a technical setup, was the core requirement.

The solution: QR code access to exams, available anywhere at any time

Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital adopted Easy LMS to power its occupational safety knowledge checks. The setup is deliberately simple. Each exam is accessible via a URL, which Rolf converts into a QR code. Instructors share the QR code during or after training, and participants scan it with their phone camera to take the test on the spot.

The organization currently has 39 exams in its account. Because Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital covers both the German and Italian-speaking regions of Switzerland, every exam is available in both languages, which accounts for much of that number. When legal changes require updates to questions or a new safety topic needs to be added, Rolf described the process as very easy. Two new exams were recently created for exactly that reason.

"The biggest added value is that anyone can take the exam externally from anywhere. The only thing we need is the URL, which we generate a QR code for."

Rolf manages Easy LMS almost entirely on his own for the occupational safety side, while a colleague handles course content for a separate department. The two use cases sit independently within the same account. Rolf noted that once you know where the settings are, the platform is very easy to use, and that even first-time users can focus entirely on the questions without getting confused by the interface.

The results: clear insight into training demand and a step ahead in the industry

Visibility into which topics matter

Rolf highlighted the exam participation data as one of the most valuable aspects of Easy LMS. Seeing how many people took each exam tells him directly which safety topics are most in demand and which are not. That insight is difficult to gather when training is delivered across hundreds of independent companies and instructors.

Accessible to everyone, anywhere

Because the exams require nothing more than a QR code scan, they work in the environments where Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital members actually operate. Workers on site, in a workshop, or at a company training session can complete the knowledge check on their phone.

“Even users trying it for the first time didn’t have any problems and could focus completely on the questions.”

Easy to maintain as regulations change

Occupational safety requirements evolve with legislation. Rolf described the initial setup as requiring minimal effort and subsequent updates as equally straightforward. When questions need to change due to new legal requirements, the URL and QR code remain the same, so nothing needs to be redistributed to instructors or member companies.

A competitive edge within the sector

Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital holds a strong position in its industry, but Rolf noted that, compared to other industry solutions, the organization is a step ahead in how it supports its members. Digital knowledge testing that is this accessible is still not the norm everywhere.

Looking ahead

Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital plans to continue expanding and refining its safety training offering. Because Easy LMS makes it simple to update questions or add new topics, the team can react quickly when legal requirements change or when new safety themes emerge in the industry.

They recently created new exams to reflect updated regulations, and they expect this to remain an ongoing part of their work. With German and Italian versions of each exam, Easy LMS helps them keep both language tracks aligned as their content evolves.

Brachenlösung Holzbau Vital is satisfied with its setup and will continue using Easy LMS as its standard tool for verifying safety knowledge across thousands of workers in the carpentry and timber construction sector.

“Staff like going in there and doing their training. It looks nice, it’s easy to use, the layout is appealing, and the styling is beautiful. We can also customize the tool to our branding. For us, it’s all about the completion rates. Without those, you might as well not bother in the first place.
“It's a very easy platform to use. It allows us to evaluate our staff in a better way and optimize the duration and quality of our exams and evaluations. It saves us so much time, and the employees are so happy that they can finally see their progress.
